Celebrate the joy and resilience of Black mothers and families as we honor the 10th anniversary of Black Maternal Health Week!
The Oregon Health Authority honors Black Maternal Health Week 2026 through partnership with Black Futures for Perinatal Health and Beirut Wedding: World Theatre Project to Present a Groundbreaking Theatrical Production on the Maternal Health Crisis and Black Mothers’ Voices for Healing.
This powerful one hour play is co-created and produced by Roberta Suzette Hunte, Bobby Bermea, and Jamie Rea of Beirut Wedding. Informed by the voices and expertise of Black doulas, midwives, public health workers, researchers, home visitors, and birthing people, Push brings to life the realities of navigating U.S. medical systems while honoring the joy, humanity, and transformative power of community-based care.
Through storytelling, this performance sheds light on disparities in maternal healthcare and uplifts birthing villages, a network of community care providers, as a pathway toward healing, justice, and culturally grounded care. Come laugh, reflect, and connect as we open space for dialogue and collective awareness.
This production is made possible through funding from three OHA Employee Resources Groups (Black, African, and African American ERG; Healthy Families ERG; and the People of Color ERG), Oregon Health & Science University, Oregon Family and Child Health, and the Office of the State Public Health Director.
We are offering two distinct showtimes to accommodate varying schedules.
