Chris Turner, Keys
A Portland native and Jefferson High alumnus, Chris has a rich background in R&B, Gospel, and Jazz-infused funk. He has toured since age 18 and performed on major television programs including Jimmy Fallon, David Letterman, and Jimmy Kimmel. In addition to serving as co-music director for BET’s Super Bowl Gospel celebration, he is a featured artist in Keyboard Magazine and has released his own project, “Love & Legacy.”
Eldon T Jones, Sax
A Lifetime Achievement Award recipient from the World Arts Foundation, Eldon is a pillar of the Portland jazz scene. He has performed at legendary venues such as Yoshi’s and Jazz Alley and has opened for Earth, Wind & Fire. His solo singles, including “T’s Jam,” have seen significant success on the Billboard and Smooth Jazz Network charts.He recently headlined a sold-out First Call Showcase at The Old Church for the Portland Jazz Festival.
Nehemiah Booker, Lead Vocalist
Raised in the church, Nehemiah began headlining concerts and recording by his early teens. He gained national recognition as a member of the gospel group Soul, signed to a Universal subsidiary, where his work spent nine weeks on the Billboard gospel charts. He is known for his powerful vocal presence and deep roots in the Portland music community.
Alonzo Chadwick, Lead Vocalist
Alonzo is an accomplished vocalist and actor with an incredible range spanning R&B, Blues, Jazz, and Gospel. A 12-year recurring soloist for the Oregon Symphony’s “Gospel Christmas,” he has shared the stage with artists such as Josh Groban, India Arie, and Pink Martini. He is also the 2012 winner of the “Most Powerful Voices” competition sponsored by GMC.
Eli Hardy, Lead Vocalist
Known as "Jove," Eli is a dynamic R&B and soul singer who began his professional career at age 11. He has opened for the Portland Trail Blazers and headlined events for Nike. In addition to his solo artistry, he serves as the head musician at Highland Christian Center and produces "The Upper Room Live Experience," showcasing elite live band performances.
Anthony Jones, Drummmer
Anthony Jones explored his passion for music formally at Thomas Jefferson High School of the Performing Arts in Portland, OR. At Jefferson High, Anthony studied drums and trumpet, won numerous awards for his abilities and he began playing his first paying gigs at the age of 14. He performed in various bands and was cast to play trumpet in the film Mr. Holland’s Opus. Anthony has also branched out to explore other facets of the music industry including producing, instructing, and product design & development. His diverse career has opened doors to work with some of the music industry’s top professionals.He joined Pink Martini in 2011 as a full-time member, and continues to record and tour nationally with the band.
Torry Ward, Bassist
Torry Ward is no stranger to the Portland music scene.Torry is an exceptionally dynamic bassist and his professional experience extends from back in the 80s. Torry performs with undeniable musical inspirations such as Eldon T Jones and N'Touch, The LaRhonda Steele Band, Ronnie Wright, Chris Turner.
This evening is more than just a concert; it's a musical journey honoring historic artists and also a chance to support the nonprofit work of Elevate Unity and Alberta Abbey.
